Cody Gakpo Mourns the Loss of His Partner’s Unborn Child

A terrible tragedy has struck Cody Gakpo and his family: the soccer player’s partner, Noa van der Bij, announced via an Instagram Story the death of the couple’s second child. Elijah passed away during the pregnancy.

““It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news that our baby passed away during pregnancy. Thank you all for your support. Elijah Raphael Gakpo. Loved forever, forever our son,” wrote the soccer player’s partner.

Here is the statement from the Dutch soccer federation: “The KNVB, the staff, and the players of the Dutch national team wish Cody Gakpo and his partner Noa van der Bij much strength as they cope with the loss of their son Elijah Raphael, who passed away before birth.”

“We are deeply shaken by this sad news. Together with the entire team, we are doing everything we can to support the family, while respecting their privacy during this painful time.” Cody Gakpo, who is currently competing in the World Cup, has decided to remain in the United States, but his participation in the upcoming match against Morocco is in doubt.
