The negotiations that were expected to bring Anan Khalaili to Inter are currently on hold. After reaching an agreement with Union Saint-Gilloise for 25 million euros plus bonuses, everything seemed set for the signing and official announcement, but the medical exams have slowed down the process.

During the medical evaluations to assess his fitness to play, an issue arose that prompted CONI doctors to request further testing. The team at the Institute of Sports Medicine and Science has therefore suspended its final assessment, postponing any decision pending the results of new tests, which are expected in the coming hours.

The player’s entourage remains confident, but for now, Inter can do nothing but wait for the final green light. The decision, in fact, rests solely with the doctors tasked with assessing the player’s fitness for sports.

Khalaili would be Inter’s first official signing of this summer transfer window, after the club had already finalized a deal for Ivan Provedel, the former Lazio goalkeeper who signed a three-year contract with the Nerazzurri. For the right-back position, the management team led by Marotta and Ausilio had long been pursuing Marco Palestra, the Atalanta fullback fresh off a loan spell at Cagliari, before the 21-year-old chose Chelsea in a deal worth approximately fifty million euros. This disappointment accelerated the search for the right player, with Khalaili emerging as the ideal solution to carry on the legacy of Denzel Dumfries, who had since been sold to Real Madrid.

The right-back, born in 2004 in Haifa to an Arab-Israeli family, followed in his father’s footsteps: his father, Majdi, was a goalkeeper. He came up through the ranks at Maccabi Haifa before moving to Belgium, where he won a Belgian league title, a Belgian Cup, and a Super Cup with Union Saint-Gilloise. Last season, he played a total of 52 games, recording 6 goals and 6 assists, including three crucial goals in eight Champions League matches that demonstrated his ability to raise his game on the big stage.
