Rodri is at the center of a major transfer saga. Barcelona wants him at all costs, while Manchester City has no intention of letting him go for a “reasonable” price, even though he has only one year left on his contract.

With the summer transfer window in full swing, the midfielder’s name has been a hot topic for about a month and a half. For most of the season, it was said that, with his contract with City expiring, a return to La Liga would be practically a steal. But the reality is that Barcelona is facing a deal that will exceed 200 million euros for the transfer of the national team captain.

The math is simple. The English club wants a whopping 80 million euros for the Spanish captain’s transfer. Barcelona has offered Rodri a four-year contract worth 15 million euros net per season. Taking into account taxes in Catalonia, this figure amounts to 34 million euros gross, for a total of 136 million euros, plus commissions and transfer fees.

This expense, plus the 80 million euros transfer fee, brings the total cost of the deal to over 210 million euros. Another detail: Rodri is no longer a youngster, as he was born in 1996. Is the transfer market inflated? Certainly for some clubs, yes.
