Lorenzo Musetti and Anna Kalinskaya will team up in New York for the highly anticipated mixed doubles tournament at the U.S. Open. The Carrara-born tennis player, who reached the quarterfinals last season, has finally recovered from his physical ailments and made it to the quarterfinals of the Washington tournament last week.

The Italian was looking for a partner for the mixed doubles tournament at Flushing Meadows, which serves as a prelude to the US Open, and secured the agreement of Jannik Sinner’s ex-girlfriend, who is also in good form after reaching the quarterfinals in Washington. At the moment, Jannik Sinner is not on the list of participants, nor is his rival Carlos Alcaraz.

Among the Italians, in addition to Musetti, are Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, the winners of the last edition, and Flavio Cobolli, paired with Belinda Bencic. The mixed doubles tournament will be held from August 24 to 26 and will feel like a major exhibition event, featuring a lineup of top-tier stars. Among the most anticipated pairs are Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic, Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, and Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud. Also worth watching is the all-Russian duo of Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev, as well as the American pair Amanda Anisimova and Learner Tien.

For Kalinskaya, this is an important opportunity to showcase her skills after a season marked by ups and downs. The Russian tennis player went through a difficult period in June, when she was forced to withdraw from her match against Elina Svitolina at the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin due to a physical issue, but she bounced back, showing encouraging signs in the weeks that followed, as evidenced by her run to the quarterfinals in Washington.
