Turin Transfer Market: Roma in Talks with Cairo Over the Granata’s Star Player. Petrachi Pushing for Fortini
Roma has once again approached Torino regarding the club’s star player, Alessio Cacciamani. A week ago, Urbano Cairo had rejected a €10 million offer from the Rome-based club, which, according to Tuttosport, has returned to the table with a revised proposal.
According to the Turin-based newspaper, owner Cairo himself is directly handling the negotiations, not sporting director Petrachi. Giallorossi coach Gian Piero Gasperini is very keen on Cacciamani and has identified him as a potential replacement for Wesley. The president of Torino has asked for at least 15 million euros for the player, and there could be new talks later today. Coach Ignazio Abate opposes the young star’s departure, considering him a key player and having consistently fielded him in recent friendlies. Not to mention the fans themselves, who remain furious with Cairo.
Regardless of whether Cacciamani stays in Turin, Torino is looking to finalize another signing for the wing in the coming weeks: the name at the top of Petrachi’s list is Niccolò Fortini of Fiorentina. The winger can play on either flank and is highly regarded by Petrachi and Abate for his versatility. A gap remains with Fiorentina regarding the transfer fee: the Viola are asking for ten million euros, while the Granata won’t go beyond five.
The two clubs have a strong relationship following the Comuzzo deal, but Fortini’s contract is expiring, and the situation is decidedly more delicate. According to Tuttosport, Petrachi will try to leverage the player’s desire to change teams.
On the outgoing front, meanwhile, Torino is also working to sell Gvidas Gineitis. The Lithuanian midfielder, born in 2004 and a product of Torino’s youth academy, is valued at 15 million euros by the club, which has already rejected an official 7.5-million-euro offer from Celtic Glasgow. The Scots are reportedly ready to raise their bid to 10 million, while interest has been expressed by several Bundesliga clubs and Atalanta itself.
