Calciopoli, Adriano Galliani returns to sting Inter after 20 years

“Italy is the only case in the world where third becomes first. In heaven the last become first, on earth the third become first. Capello had won two Scudetti on the field with Juventus.” Adriano Galliani, speaking in Solomeo next to Fabio Capello during the presentation of the list of one hundred candidates for the European Golden Boy (the award dedicated to the best Under 21 players in European leagues), returned to the Calciopoli issue, also throwing a dig at Inter.
The former CEO of Milan and Monza then addressed the issue of the crisis in Italian soccer: “Turnovers have changed. The teams that have won the Champions League in recent years all have revenues twice as high as those of the Italian big teams. To increase revenues we need stadiums and sports infrastructure. A modern facility also helps to sell TV rights better.”
Galliani then pointed out how Serie A has lost appeal compared to the past: “We used to be a championship of arrival, today we are a championship of transit. With limited turnovers a good coach can also help, but the reason we used to win and now we don’t is simple: we had the best players. The last Ballon d’Or winner playing in Italy was Kaká in 2007.”
