Farewell to the beloved singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini: he was 86 years old

At the age of 86, the popular singer-songwriter, writer, and actor Francesco Guccini passed away at his home in Pavana, a hamlet in the municipality of Sambuca Pistoiese, in the province of Pistoia. The sad news was announced by his family.

Born in Modena on June 14, 1940, he moved to Bologna at a very young age. It was there that he began composing many of his masterpieces. Over the course of his long career, he released a total of 30 albums. Among his best-known songs are “La locomotiva,” “Autogrill,” and “L’avvelenata.” His latest album was “Canzoni da osteria” (2024).

He also worked as a journalist and, for about two decades, taught at the Bologna campus of Dickinson College. He made several appearances in films. Among them were his roles in *Radiofreccia*, directed by Ligabue. As a writer, it is worth mentioning *Croniche epafaniche*, his first novel (1989) and also one of his most successful works.

“In accordance with his wishes, the funeral will take place in the coming days and will be strictly private. The family, in requesting that this time of grief be observed in the strictest privacy, thanks in advance all those who will join them in mourning with affection, discretion, and respect. “To allow those who loved him to remember and bid him farewell, a memorial service will be held in September,” the family’s statement reads.
