Tragedy in Saudi Arabia: Fourteen people died when a helicopter belonging to the oil giant Saudi Aramco crashed in Ras Tanura, in the eastern part of the country.

The official SPA news agency and the satellite TV channel al-Arabiya reported the news of the disaster. According to the agency, “an official source from the Ministry of Energy announced that on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 6:00 a.m., a helicopter belonging to Saudi Aramco crashed in Ras Tanura. The accident claimed the lives of all 14 passengers, all of whom were Saudi citizens.”

An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the crash. Two days ago, Saudi Aramco had resumed loading crude oil at its Ras Tanura terminal in the Persian Gulf after a nearly four-month hiatus due to the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran.

Aramco is a name familiar to sports fans: it is currently the official sponsor of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. It is also a Global Partner of Formula 1 and sponsors the Aston Martin team. In the past, it had unsuccessfully sought a partnership with Valentino Rossi’s MotoGP team, VR46.
