Jannik Sinner Is Out: Tallon Griekspoor Makes a Candid Confession

After his victory over Matteo Arnaldi at the Montreal tournament, Tallon Griekspoor spoke at a press conference about the absence of the top players, particularly Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. “The draw is wide open; Sinner and Alcaraz are the best and have always stood out from the rest. But when they’re not there, anything is possible,” he explained.

“Zverev did an incredible job at Roland Garros to capitalize on the opportunity. Then he played very well at Wimbledon, too. He, like other great players, can be eliminated in the early rounds, whereas for Jannik and Carlos it’s different. Anything is possible for anyone in these situations.”

Griekspoor himself feels he’s in the running for something significant: “Right now, even the world No. 50 or 60 can go far in major tournaments. This gives me confidence; I’ll give it my all to achieve a good result. I believe I’ve earned it. I know I’m capable of beating the best players in the world, so I enjoy challenging the top players.”

The Dutchman managed to knock out Zverev in the first round: “It’s never easy to play after a great win like the one I had against Zverev two days ago. I had some trouble with my shots at the start, but I managed to bounce back and played pretty well in the end. I feel like I made the difference in the second and third sets. I haven’t won many matches in the last four or five months—it’s been a tough time. I’ve given it my all and worked hard to improve.”
