Bologna Transfer Market: The Rossoblù Make a Move for Vargas; a Winger Is on His Way Out

Bologna wants to strengthen its wing in the event of Jonathan Rowe’s possible departure. The English winger is being courted by Atalanta, which is reportedly offering 35 million euros for the former Olympique de Marseille player, who is ready to move to Bergamo.

The Rossoblù, who met with the British player’s agent on Tuesday, have thus moved quickly in the transfer market in search of a replacement: according to Sky, Bologna has entered the race for Ruben Vargas, a left winger set to leave Sevilla. The player is in advanced negotiations for a transfer to Olympiacos, but the arrival of a Serie A club could change everything.

The Swiss winger was a mainstay for Switzerland at the last World Cup in North America and is highly regarded by Domenico Tedesco: at the moment, Bologna has been testing the waters with a view to a possible offer. For Vargas, 28, this would be his first stint in Serie A following stints with Luzern, Augsburg, and Sevilla.

The player, who is of Dominican descent on his father’s side, has made 67 appearances for the Swiss national team. In the last World Cup, he played in six matches, scoring two goals against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada. He started out as a left winger but can also play on the right or behind the forwards as an attacking playmaker. His contract expires in 2029, and the Andalusian club estimates his market value at around 15 million euros.
