Como Transfer Market: Álvaro Morata Left Everyone Speechless
Álvaro Morata has made his decision: he will play for Leganés, a club in the Segunda División (the Spanish second division), leaving Como “on loan until the end of the season, with an option to buy,” as stated in the official announcement released by the Como club on Friday. This is a surprising move for the 2024 European champion with the Spanish national team, who hasn’t played in a second-division league since 2012–2013, when he wore the jersey of Castilla, Real Madrid’s reserve team.
Morata had a 2025–2026 season to forget at Como, despite the club’s strong performance: 26 league appearances and no goals (as Cesc Fàbregas quickly moved up the pecking order), 4 appearances and one goal in the Coppa Italia—his only goal of the season—scored against Fiorentina in the round of 16 of the knockout tournament.
For the striker, born in 1992, this marks a return to his home country after two years: before his stint at Como, he had in fact played for Milan, which had signed him from Atlético Madrid for 15 million euros during the first half of the 2024–2025 season, only to move to Galatasaray in the second half of the season after falling out with the Rossoneri camp.
Having come up through the youth systems of Atlético Madrid, Getafe, and Real Madrid, Álvaro Morata made his senior debut in the 2010–2011 season with Castilla in Segunda División B (Spain’s third division), earning promotion to Segunda the following year. He then joined Real Madrid’s first team and wore the white jersey until 2014, when he moved to Juventus. In 2016, he returned to Real Madrid for one season before moving to Chelsea (where he remained until January 2019) and then returning to Atlético.
From 2020 to 2022, he had a second stint with Juventus, though he was unable to fully replicate the successes of his first spell: in total, while wearing the black-and-white jersey, he won two Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia trophies, and two Italian Super Cups (to which another would be added with Milan, though not as a key player).
He also won two Spanish league titles, two Champions League titles, two Copa del Rey titles, one Spanish Super Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, and one Club World Cup with Real Madrid; one FA Cup with Chelsea; and one Turkish league title and one national cup with Galatasaray. With the Spanish national teams, he won the 2011 Under-19 European Championship, the 2013 Under-21 European Championship, the 2023 Nations League, and the 2024 European Championship.
