Tadej Pogacar: Season Over, but a Scrooge McDuck-Style Contract Extension Through 2032

Tadej Pogacar and UAE Team Emirates-XRG will remain together through 2032. The Emirati team has officially announced the renewal of the Slovenian champion’s contract, meaning he will continue the journey that began in 2019, when he signed his first World Tour contract. At 27, Pogacar has chosen to commit himself for the long term to the team he now considers a second home. “From the very beginning, this team has been like a home to me. We’ve grown together over the years and shared incredible moments, so I’m very happy,” commented the star rider from Komenda.

The announcement of the renewal comes alongside confirmation of the early end to Pogacar’s season. The crash in the Vuelta has, in fact, had serious consequences: the Slovenian cyclist suffered a displaced fracture of his left collarbone, a concussion, and a stable fracture of his C7 cervical vertebra: “Right now, the most important thing is to make a full recovery and give my body the time it needs,” Pogacar explained.

Team principal and CEO Mauro Giannetti reiterated that the champion’s health is the top priority: “His health and recovery are the priority. The right decision is for him to take the time needed to recover fully. We can’t wait to have him back with us when he’s ready.” The injury will force Pogacar to miss the World Championships in Canada—where he was set to defend the title he won last year—as well as the Giro di Lombardia. After five consecutive victories, the Classica delle Foglie Morte will therefore have a different winner. Still, 2026 ends with an extraordinary haul of victories for Pogacar. The Slovenian won Strade Bianche, Milan–San Remo, the Tour of Flanders, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège, before adding the Tour de Romandie, the Tour de Suisse, and his fifth Tour de France to his list of victories.

Now his sights are already set on the future. The contract extension through 2032 confirms Pogacar’s desire to build another long chapter of his career with UAE: “I still have a lot to achieve in this sport, and I believe this is the right place to do it,” said the Slovenian champion. Among his goals for the near future are two particularly ambitious ones: his first victory at Paris–Roubaix and a sixth Tour de France title—a feat never before achieved in the history of the Grande Boucle.
