A Convincing Victory in Germany: Alessandro Magro Promotes His BC Roma

Alessandro Magro praises his BC Roma team following their victory in Germany against Ratiopharm Ulm. The Giallorossi coach was particularly pleased with the insights gained from this high-level European test, a 104-99 victory over a team that Roma will face again in Round 7 of the upcoming BKT EuroCup.

“We’re happy to have won; this game gives us plenty of insights—both offensively and defensively—to work on,” Magro explained at the end of the friendly. For the coach, it was important to face “a team that brings great physicality and athleticism to the court”—qualities that allowed BC Roma to gauge where it stands in its development.

The Ulm test held particular significance because Magro was able to count on the four players returning from their national team duties—as well as Corey Davis—for the first time. Paul Watson, on the other hand, was rested as a precaution. “We managed the rotations and playing time,” emphasized the coach, who was thus able to broaden his assessment of the entire team.

And the results showed on the court. After a very evenly matched first half, which ended with the Germans leading 52-50, Rome stepped up its game in the second half. In the third quarter, the Giallorossi even went on a 9-0 run, building an 8-point lead and entering the final ten minutes ahead 79-75.

This is an area where the coach has already seen encouraging signs: “From this perspective, I’ve found the team to be very receptive.” Rome will now take a day off before resuming training on Friday, September 11. On the same day, the team will depart for Matera, where they will compete in the Basilicata Trophy over the weekend alongside Scafati, Napoli, and Varese.
