Lois Openda’s comments on Juventus are sparking debate: a pointed jab

Lois Openda’s time at Juventus—marked by more lows than highs—has once again become the focus of attention for fans and insiders following comments made by the Belgian forward to *L’Equipe*. Openda is currently on loan at Lyon this season, where he has regained playing time, found the back of the net, and regained his confidence, and he hasn’t missed an opportunity to get a few things off his chest.

“I decided to join Juventus in the summer of 2025,” Openda explained. “I spoke with Damien Comolli, who was the CEO at the time, and he explained how the club wanted to use me in a challenging league. I had no issues with the coach, but up front there were David and Vlahovic: I complemented the former, but the latter always kept the ball to himself.” Juventus, incidentally, also let David and Vlahovic go—to Atlético Madrid and Beşiktaş, respectively (in the latter case, after his contract expired).

That dig at the Serbian didn’t go unnoticed and ties into a broader point: “I’m a forward who takes advantage of the depth, but in Italy, the teams that really make the most of these characteristics are Inter and, to some extent now, Roma, which has begun to understand the importance of this aspect.”

In the end, Openda scored just two goals during his time with Juventus: one came in the league, the other in the Champions League. This summer, he moved on loan to Lyon: in eight official appearances, the Belgian has already matched his total number of goals scored in the entire 2025–2026 season, and it’s not out of the question that Juventus might reconsider their assessment of him once he returns to the club on July 1.
