Sofia Goggia: October 9 is a date to mark on your calendar

Anticipation for the new international ski season is building, and Sofia Goggia is undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited stars. The champion from Bergamo, after feeling unwell during the training camp in Argentina, returned to Italy but has remained silent—even on social media, where she was completely absent in September.

A particularly anticipated date will be October 9, when the FISI athletes will meet with the press. It will be an opportunity to shed light on the condition of the Italian star and gain a better understanding of her prospects ahead of the season opener in Sölden. Her absence from social media has inevitably fueled questions among fans, who are accustomed to Sofia’s constant and lively presence on her channels. “You’re making us worry” is one of the messages that has appeared most frequently in online comments and discussions.

The last post on Instagram dates back to August 22, when Goggia announced Markus Gufler as her new ski technician, replacing the longtime Barnaba “Babi” Greppi. Her early return from Argentina was made official by FISI in a press release that mentioned “illness during her stay in Ushuaia” and the decision—agreed upon with the Medical Commission chaired by Dr. Andrea Panzeri—to undergo the necessary medical examinations.

What makes the situation even more unexpected is the fact that, until just a few days before her return, there had been no indication of a change in plans. In fact, the skier from Bergamo had been training regularly on the snow, including some giant slalom sessions, without any particular red flags emerging.

The countdown, therefore, has begun. The World Cup will kick off on October 24 with the traditional event in Sölden, and the press conference on October 9 will be a crucial step in understanding the plans and ambitions of one of the most anticipated athletes of the entire winter sports season.
