Jannik Sinner: Andy Murray Is Categorical About the Rankings

Andy Murray, on the sidelines of the ongoing Laver Cup, was asked by TNT Sports who is currently the best tennis player in the world. The Scot had no hesitation in answering: his favorite is Carlos Alcaraz, even though the current world No. 1 is Jannik Sinner, and despite the two Grand Slam titles Alexander Zverev won in 2026.

“I think you have to answer this question assuming that, hypothetically, everyone is in good health. I believe Alcaraz is the best player when everyone is in top form and healthy. Beyond that, everyone has their own preferences,” the Scot explained.

“In my opinion, Alcaraz is the best player, but on any given day, any of these players can win. We’ve seen Sinner beat Alcaraz on several occasions. Zverev has won two Grand Slam tournaments this year. He’s had an incredible season.”

“But I really like watching Carlos play; I think he has a fantastic personality and character. I like how he smiles when he plays; I like his style of play, and he’s capable of any shot. So he’s my pick.” The showdown between Sinner and Alcaraz has been postponed once again: the Italian won’t be in Beijing and hopes to recover in time for the Shanghai Masters 1000.
