Jannik Sinner: Andy Roddick’s speculation is causing a stir: “It would make sense…”

Jannik Sinner’s forced break could turn into an opportunity to fully recharge and take comprehensive care of his physical well-being. This is the theory put forward by former world No. 1 Andy Roddick and American journalist Jon Wertheim, who, during a podcast, discussed the possible reasons behind the Italian champion’s early season end, as he was forced to cut his season short due to a knee injury.

According to the two, Sinner, like Carlos Alcaraz, may be feeling the effects of the accumulated fatigue of recent years and the physical stress associated with a particularly demanding schedule. The injury, therefore, could also provide an opportunity to address other issues and plan a more comprehensive recovery ahead of his return to the court in 2027: “My guess is that he’s using this break for his knee to address other issues as well,” Roddick explained, clarifying that this is his own interpretation and not based on any medical information he possesses.

The former American tennis player elaborated on this line of reasoning, focusing on the possibility of using the break to ensure he’s in the best possible condition when the season resumes: “Can we kill two birds with one stone before returning in 2027? Although I don’t have specific information on this, if I were in that situation, it would be a logical line of reasoning,” Roddick stated.

The idea is to take advantage of the time away from the courts to focus not only on the issue that forced the hiatus but also on overall physical conditioning. This remains, however, mere speculation, given the lack of precise information on Sinner’s condition and the strategies agreed upon with his staff.
