AC Milan issued a statement condemning the racist insults directed at Mike Maignan on social media following the Rossoneri’s match against Bournemouth on Thursday night. The French goalkeeper was sent off in the 27th minute after bringing down an opposing player, which also resulted in a penalty kick: the worst of the worst erupted on social media, with threats and discriminatory insults that the club refused to let slide.

” Following yesterday’s match against Bournemouth, Mike Maignan was the target of serious and unacceptable racist insults on social media. AC Milan firmly condemns all forms of racism and discrimination—unacceptable behaviors that have no place either on or off the field.”

“The Club expresses its full solidarity and support for Mike and reaffirms its ongoing commitment to promoting the values of respect, inclusion, and equality. These are the values of AC Milan.”

“Finally, we must remain united, as Milanisti and as the Italian soccer community. The only way to restore Italian soccer to the place it deserves is to stand together and give our best, both individually and collectively. We all want to win, but we must do so the right way—with dignity, mutual respect, and class”:
