The Venezia-Inter match has sparked controversy: the focus is on the decision by referee Pairetto and the VAR not to disallow the Nerazzurri’s go-ahead goal, which came in the 80th minute thanks to an own goal by Moreno. The Venice players protested at length over Carlos Augusto’s alleged foul on Sohm, which sparked the play that led to the Italian champions’ 1-0 lead.

On Instagram, Juan Jesus, a former Nerazzurri defender now with Venice, made no secret of his frustration: “I’m more and more proud of and convinced by this team! Yesterday leaves us with great regret, because based on what we showed on the field, we deserved so much more. A foul that obvious, with all the cameras available, cannot go unnoticed,” was the Brazilian’s scathing indictment.

“If not even VAR corrects incidents like this, fair and credible soccer remains nothing more than a slogan. We’ll keep fighting, with even more hunger and determination. Because I believe in this team and in what we can build together.”

DAZN’s video analyst Luca Marelli also sided with the Venice-based team, not mincing words: “Zielinski’s recovery of the ball came after a foul committed by Carlos Augusto on Sohm. With his left leg, he didn’t touch the ball but Sohm’s calf, and in my opinion, that’s a foul.” Thuram’s cross was then deflected into his own net by Moreno, and coach Davide Nicola had also complained about the earlier contact.

Inter now turns its attention to the Milan derby, scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at 8:45 p.m. for Matchday 10. The Nerazzurri head into the match as league leaders with 25 points, tied with Lazio and still undefeated, while Milan sits in fifth place with 18 points: the Rossoneri are looking for a big result to cut the seven-point gap and reignite the title race.
