Ducati: Jorge Lorenzo Gets Straight to the Point About Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi

Former Ducati rider Jorge Lorenzo spoke to Gpone.com on the sidelines of EICMA, focusing on his former teammate Marc Marquez, who is now close to securing his tenth world title. “Martin’s crash was perhaps unfortunate, because we could have had an incredible season finale: the standings were really very close. Aprilia, Ducati, Marquez, and Martin were all very competitive. But that’s racing: sometimes bad luck or a few small wrong decisions can ruin a championship.”
For the former Spanish rider, Marquez still has no real rivals: “He’s still the best technically. Ever since he arrived in MotoGP, he’s done things that no one else is capable of, and even though his arm is still in the condition we know it to be, he manages to make the difference. Of course, Acosta is extremely strong and is coming on very fast. But Marc’s arm injury slightly reduces his technical edge over the others. If he were 100%, he’d be winning even more.”
There was no real comparison with Pecco Bagnaia: “Pecco is a great rider, very technical and precise. When everything is working right for him, he’s really strong. But Marquez is Marquez: he’s the Ayrton Senna of motorcycles, the Max Verstappen of motorcycles. Technically, he’s on another level. When he finally got back on the best bike on the grid, he made the difference.”
On the Aprilia: “From a technical standpoint, the Aprilia was superior to the Ducati. It was a bike capable of leaning much more than the Ducati; it was very light, handled exceptionally well, and, above all, had an impressive lean angle. I have a lot of experience, and I could see that clearly. I told Fabiano that if Bezzecchi hadn’t made any mistakes, they would have won the title. Instead, Bezzecchi crashed in the very first race, and other significant crashes followed.”
