So distraught that he’s barricaded himself in his home: FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono hasn’t left his house for days, still in shock over the death of Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel during a Spanish Second Division match. The player died after a violent collision with Owono, who is now unable to find peace.

“These are the hardest days of my life. I’m struggling to find the words, and it’s very difficult for me to process everything that has happened. I feel immense pain over the loss of Jesus. My thoughts are with him, his family, and all the people who loved him,” the goalkeeper wrote in a letter.

According to a source cited by The Athletic, Owono is “completely devastated and cut off from the world; right now, he doesn’t even know who he is.” The Guinean national team player refuses to leave his home, where he is with his partner, his mother, and several friends who are trying in some way to comfort him. Andorra’s fans have sent him a message of support: “You are not alone.”

On social media, he has been overwhelmed by a wave of insults and threats, and the player also faces potential criminal charges for what happened. He is not the only one suffering: the FC Andorra team is also receiving psychological support to help them overcome the trauma.

On the sports front, on Thursday, Rafael Alonso, the disciplinary judge for Spanish professional competitions, ratified the final 2-2 result of the Tenerife-Andorra match, even though there were still two minutes left to play. The RFEF Disciplinary Committee, however, postponed any decision on sanctions against Owono until next week out of respect for the player’s family on the day of his funeral.
