At PalaTrieste, Germani Brescia won, but Francesco Taccetti had only words of high praise for his team despite the knockout (82-86 the final result) against one of the two teams at the top of the Serie A standings. “I believe that tonight we managed to prove to ourselves that we are capable of competing with the top of the class. From here to the end of the season that’s exactly what we want to keep doing,” said the Trieste Basketball coach.

“We played our game with great intensity and desire to do things well. We already knew that, Brescia represented the first of three tests against the top teams in the standings,” Taccetti recalled. “These are performances that will help us understand where we are with respect to our growth path. And I think the big difference between the first and second half stems from the fact that we missed a few more open shots.”

“We were good, although Brescia’s second unit is the one that often makes the difference on defense and allows them to change games. But we can’t think that only because of that Trieste’s second half was negative,” added Taccetti. “Maybe we made some mistakes in our choices, but this will serve us to learn and aim to do better. This game for us just has to be a source of confidence. If we can do against the frontrunners even the things we have been trying for a while, then what we are doing is working.”

But Trieste’s growth project is not over. “We still want to work on improving our level of aggressiveness on offense. We already did it very well tonight in the first half, but I would always like this intensity in the first seconds of possession. The zone is also a tactical solution to consider. We still have to work, knowing that we have a lot of talent at our disposal and a lot of guys who are good at going to the basket,” Taccetti concluded.
