Triumphant evening for Piacenza and for all Italian volleyball. Gas Sales Bluenergy conquered the CEV Cup overcoming the Germans of Luneburg with a clear 3-0 in the return final at the PalabancaSport, after the success with the same score obtained in Germany. Two sets were enough to lift the trophy, but the red-and-whites wanted to close in style, dominating the third partial as well and giving their audience an unforgettable night.

Coach Dante Boninfante’s team took the court with the right mentality from the very first bars. The absolute protagonist was Robertlandy Simon, in his last game with the Piacenza jersey, who made his mark right from the first action with an imperious wall and, symbolically, with the point that delivered the cup to his team. A farewell in glory for the Cuban champion, who thus closes a circle that began in Piacenza itself in 2013.

The first set immediately saw the hosts take the lead thanks to the aces of Bovolenta and Porro, always maintaining control until the final 25-20. Similar script in the second partial, with Piacenza ahead from the first bars and able to manage the lead without difficulty: the 25-17 signed by Gutierrez made the party explode, mathematically delivering the CEV Cup to the Emilians. The third set, with ample turnover, was little more than a formality, closed 25-21 for a clear 3-0.

Italian volleyball celebrates its second European title of the season after the Challenge Cup won by Milan, and on May 16 and 17 in Turin it will be the turn of Perugia, engaged in the Champions League Final Four, with the dream of completing a resounding “Triplete.”

Between the protagonists, in addition to Simon, shine symbolic stories such as that of Alessandro Bovolenta, son of the great Vigor, and that of Gianluca Galassi, capable of returning to the highest level after facing two surgeries in the season.
