Salary cut: Cristiano Ronaldo’s response

The Coronavirus is severely testing Italian soccer, which, already in debt, risks collapse. On Friday, Giorgio Chiellini had launched an appeal, urging his teammates to cut their salaries during the championship suspension: the defender’s proposal involves giving up part of his annual salary, rumored to be a month and a half, to meet the club’s needs, and would have found the support of senators Buffon and Bonucci.
And now also of Cristiano Ronaldo. According to Tuttosport, the Portuguese striker has reportedly agreed to the proposal and is ready to give up nearly 4 million euros. A line that seems to have the entire squad in agreement, and which would be drawn by the club through long-distance talks that have been staged in recent days.
Apart from the waiver of a month and a half’s salary, the other options envisaged by the club include: the payment of the March payroll, followed by the discontinuation of the monthly salary for the period of time that is not played; or the waiver by the team of two of the next four monthly salaries, should Serie A be suspended permanently. Or the waiver of one monthly salary if it were to resume instead.
