Cagliari beat Atalanta 3-2 in the first Monday post-match of the 34th day of Serie A.

The Sardinians’ crucial victory was signed by the youngster Mendy and Borrelli. Pisacane’s team flies to +8 on the third-last place, while Dea remains -7 from the sixth position and sees the qualification to the European cups getting more and more distant.

First half with fireworks at the Unipol Domus Arena: the hosts start very strong and after just 8 minutes they are ahead by two goals thanks to the surprising Paul Mendy. The 19-year-old Senegalese, making his debut as a starter, scored after just 13 seconds with a header off an accurate assist from Adopo, and 7 minutes later he scored the double on a tap-in after a short clearance by Carnesecchi. Atalanta almost collapsed and at 29′ risked conceding 3-0 from Adopo, who wasted everything at the moment of the shot.

The Dea reorganized and in the final half rebalanced the result with two flare-ups signed by Scamacca: at 41′ the Azzurri center forward scored with a nice right-footed shot on a suggestion from De Ketelaere, in the dying minutes came the 2-2 goal on an assist from Scalvini.

The excitement continued in the second half: at 47′ the red and blue took the lead again: Borrelli scored the 3-2 after a nice restart triggered by Folorunsho, Atalanta’s defense still nicely asleep. The Bergamaschi struggle to react despite the series of muscle injuries that penalizes the Sardinians (out of Mendy, Borrelli and Rodriguez).

Belotti goes within a step of 4-2 but Carnesecchi tells him no at 78′, two minutes later it is instead Pasalic to come close to 3-3 by sending wide. Caprile rises three times as a protagonist in the final match on Krstovic, Scamacca and Raspadori: the result does not change anymore and Cagliari fans celebrate, salvation is closer.
