Walter Novellino comments thus to the microphones of Mediaset Premium on the defeat in his debut on the Palermo bench: “In the defensive phase we have worked a lot, but certainly we can improve. It is also obvious that the public is bitter, we have to win to make people forget the past right away. We tried to close in and set up the game on the restarts: I am convinced we can restart from the good second half we saw this evening. We have an extraordinary player, which is Vazquez, and I think we can make good results, through work. I don’t care about the results of other teams in the salvation struggle, right now we have to think about ourselves.”
“What team did I find? Maybe I was struck by the low self-esteem: there are players with great quality and if they believe in themselves we can get out of this situation. When you lose so many games, psychologically you lose some esteem, but today I saw a team that, on a character level, I like. The ranking worries, it’s not good: it’s clear that we have to get results, but we can get out of it. Physically we are very well, it is more on the mental aspect that we are struggling.”
On the penalty: “Maybe the foul was there, but the ball was somewhere else. The referee should have stopped the game and let it be retaken.”
