The market conundrum that has kept Red Star fans in suspense seems to have reached its final headlines. For months rumors have been chasing each other about the future of Vasilije Kostov, the Belgrade jewel who has bewitched observers from half of Europe, including Inter Milan. However, according to the latest rumors launched by “Sportinjo,” the Nerazzurri club would have been overtaken in the final sprint: the Serbian talent is now just a step away from flying to London, where the Gunners side of the British capital awaits him.

The deal with Arsenal would already be at an advanced stage of definition on the basis of 12 million euros fixed, to which would be added bonuses capable of raising the total investment up to 20 million. Mikel Arteta seems to have identified in Kostov the ideal profile to give unpredictability to the three-quarter: far from being a simple containment midfielder, the 2008 class acts as a modern ten, capable of moving between the lines and splitting games.

His career has been a meteoric rise: after dominating in the youth categories, he made his early debut in the first team at the age of 16 and even became the club’s youngest scorer in a European competition. Only after he had burned through these chronological milestones came the numbers that testified to his distinct offensive aptitude: with an impressive scoring average for a midfielder and numerous assists on the scoresheet, Kostov quickly became the team’s creative linchpin. This technical maturity, combined with a strong personality for a 17-year-old, has enabled him to quickly establish himself even in the jersey of the Serbian senior national team.

The official signing with the Londoners could come as early as this week. For Red Star it would be a record capital gain, while for Arsenal it would be yet another prospective coup to secure one of the most interesting talents in world soccer. Should the medicals be confirmed soon, the Gunners would secure an offensive architect capable of shifting the balance in the Premier League for years to come. Inter Milan will have to move on to another target.
