F1, Emerson Fittipaldi stands with Fernando Alonso
Fittipaldi proves Alonso right
Fernando Alonso’s claim in Mexico that “Max Verstappen’s titles are more valuable than Lewis Hamilton’s” had caused quite a stir. On the occasion of the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix, Emerson Fittipaldi spoke out in an interview with the “Express,” agreeing with the Spanish driver.
The three-time Formula 1 world champion said, “Fernando is right. Max has had to compete with more drivers than Lewis. It is very complicated to analyze this situation, but what I wanted to say is that it has more value because today the grid is extremely competitive.”
“The level is higher than when Lewis won his titles. In those championships he only fought against his teammates. Now, Max has to fight against very different people, and if you think about it, Fernando’s words are correct. This year the gap between the top five cars is much smaller,” Fittipaldi added.
“Everything is tighter now than when there was Lewis and Nico, and then Lewis and Valtteri, their car was far superior to the rest of the grid. Now the group is more homogeneous, I like it better the way it is this year,” Emerson concluded.
