Toto Wolff enjoys the third consecutive success of Kimi Antonelli, who leaves Miami as World Championship leader with twenty points ahead of teammate George Russell, knowing that this further triumph will turn the spotlight even more on the nineteen-year-old Italian, revelation of this start of the season.

“It is important right now that Kimi keeps his feet on the ground. In the team we know this very well, and his parents have also played a key role in this. Obviously, however, the big Italian public is now all about him. They only talk about Sinner-Antonelli, Antonelli-Sinner, they are the two superstars also because the national soccer team did not qualify for the World Cup and I think Sinner won in Madrid. Obviously this puts a lot of attention on Kimi, the demands from the media and sponsors are many and we have to put a brake to keep him in a safe condition.”

In Mercedes there is full awareness of having invested in a special talent since the days of karting, but also of the need to accompany him with balance along a still long path.

“Kimi has a formidable teammate who is extremely fast. The other rivals are catching up in terms of performance, and we want to play a long game, both on this World Championship and with him: he has a F.1 career of many years ahead of him, and in the next ten or fifteen he can win many championships. We don’t want to stumble now with these huge expectations that gravitate to him because the moment he does a bad race then people will say ‘Maybe he’s not the superstar we thought.’ You need to follow a trajectory, knowing that there will be ups and downs as is normal for a boy his age.”
