After Jannik Sinner’s victory in Rome, Carlos Alcaraz was among the first colleagues to congratulate the South Tyrolean champion, posting on his official Instagram profile a picture of the Azzurro with all the Masters 1000 trophies and the inscription “Congratulations Jannik Sinner for completing the Golden Masters (the conquest of all Masters 1000 ed.). You deserved it.”

But an alleged open letter that the Murcia outfielder allegedly dedicated to the world number one also began to circulate on social media.

The message, re-shared by thousands of people, turned out to be fake news instead.

In the fake letter Alcaraz calls Sinner “brother”: “Every time the phone vibrates… there’s your name again. Another Sunday when you make history as if it were the most normal thing in the world. Sometimes I think you win too much when I’m not around. Tennis seems strange when I’m not watching you on the other side of the net between points. The circuit is too quiet without our matches”: in short, a really over-the-top message that in fact was spread by TennisCentel, a well-known satirical profile of X.

The esteem between Alcaraz and Sinner is in any case well known: in a recent interview, the Spaniard explained how between the two the rivalry remains on the court: “There is no need to hate each other, we can definitely do without, we fight for the same goal. Rivalries are long processes. It is not comparable to the historical rivalries in tennis, because we both still have many years of our careers ahead of us. I hope we will continue to play against each other many times, in many finals, and share victories in major tournaments.”
