Johann Zarco (Honda-LCR), the victim on Sunday of a serious injury to his left knee following a crash during the MotoGP Catalan GP, will have to undergo surgery, but it will not happen before the beginning of June. This was communicated by the LCR team through an official note.

“On Tuesday, May 19, Johann Zarco was examined in Lyon by Dr. Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet, an internationally renowned orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee ligament injuries and sports traumas, for further evaluations on his physical condition,” the statement read.

After extensive examinations, doctors determined that the rider will have to wait about two weeks before undergoing surgery on the ligaments, so as to allow the initial injury to reduce. Only after the surgery will a detailed rehabilitation program be established, which will allow the medical staff to estimate the time for a return to the track.

The 35-year-old Frenchman had returned to France yesterday, in the aftermath of the violent accident in which his leg was caught between the rear wheel and the top of Francesco Bagnaia’s Ducati.
