Rafael Jodar is preparing to make his debut for the first time in his career at Roland Garros. The Spanish rising star, who continues to be highly praised, wants to enjoy the experience, knowing that it will not be easy to succeed in repeating himself over three sets in the first Slam of his life. “Discovering all the tournaments is always something very special. I’m trying to get used to it. I try to play my tennis in every tournament, to impose my style. And if things are not going well, I try to accept the situation and be aware that I have solutions to solve what is happening in the match.”

“It will be a new experience, playing best of five sets,” continued the Iberian. “I will try to give my best on match day. Everyone here is very strong. They can make things difficult from day one. You have to try to be best prepared physically and mentally and know that matches can change so much. You have to endure, because in such a long match anything can happen.”

Jodar explained that just last year’s Roland Garros final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner left an indelible mark on him. Both the Murcian and the South Tyrolean enchanted him, “I watched the final at home, in Madrid, as soon as I came back from the United States. It was a great match from both of them, not only Carlos who won, but also Jannik. I think it was a very high level match and I really enjoyed watching it on television. It was an epic final that I will always remember.

Jodar rejected any comparisons to Alcaraz: “I’m just trying to follow my own path, build my career and enjoy the process, because it’s amazing to be in all these places playing against these great players.”
