Shavon Shields is taking his time: he may leave Olimpia; there’s a good offer on the table

Shavon Shields’ future seems less and less tied to Olimpia Milano. The possibility of a transfer to Aris Thessaloniki is gaining traction, with the Greek club ready to present a financial offer capable of convincing the player to leave the Italian league.

During the media day organized by Olimpia to celebrate its recent Italian championship victory, the 32-year-old chose not to comment on his future. “I love being here in Milan. I’ve been here for a long time, and my family loves this city. But time will tell.”

The American, who holds a Danish passport, has been wearing the red-and-white jersey since 2020, the year he arrived from Baskonia, the team with which he had played the previous seasons in the Spanish league.

The situation is all the more surprising given Shields’ performance during the most crucial phase of the season. The forward was named to the Unipol 2026 LBA Playoffs Dream Team, an honor recognizing the five most outstanding players of the postseason: he averaged 13.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and a 14.5 efficiency rating in 24.6 minutes per game. These numbers confirm that the player made a decisive contribution to winning the league title—Olimpia’s third title of the season after the Super Cup and the Italian Cup—marking the club’s first treble in its history.

His potential departure would come at a time of profound upheaval for the Milan roster. Olimpia is already dealing with the confirmed departure of Armoni Brooks, MVP of both the regular season and the Finals, who has chosen to accept a two-year offer totaling approximately 4.6 million euros from ASVEL Villeurbanne. This is a significant loss, and sports director Daniele Baiesi is tasked with filling the void by finding a perimeter player capable of alternating between the point guard and shooting guard positions.
