A shocking transfer snub for Inter. After months of negotiations, the Nerazzurri had secured Marco Palestra: Inter’s transfer team had reached an agreement with the player and obtained Atalanta’s approval for the signing. Then came Chelsea’s sudden intervention, which changed everything.

The London club presented a staggering offer to the player and his agent—a contract worth 6 million euros per year—which the former Cagliari player ultimately decided to accept, according to *La Gazzetta dello Sport*. Inter had offered 2 million euros per season. The English club’s offer to Atalanta was also significant: Chelsea put 55 million euros on the table plus a percentage of any future resale, a move that even caught Atalanta off guard.

Inter, considering the offers already high, did not want to raise their bid, and the deal ended in a stalemate for the Italian champions: Palestra will move to Chelsea in the Premier League next season.

The need to find a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, who was sold to Real Madrid, had made Palestra Inter’s top transfer target. The young defender, who burst onto the scene last season while on loan at Cagliari, was considered the ideal candidate to carry on the Dutchman’s legacy on the right flank. Now Inter will inevitably have to return to the transfer market to find a credible alternative. Among the players already being monitored by the club’s management are Fiorentina’s Dodô, Dan Ndoye, and veteran Dani Carvajal, who is now a free agent after leaving Real Madrid.
