Roger Federer’s heart-to-heart: his big fear after retirement
After the retreat, doubts come.
Roger Federer has said goodbye to played tennis, and now he is left to figure out how to continue his life. More importantly, whether to continue his career in the sport in an active way or devote himself to something completely different. Doubts that, as the Swiss star himself admitted, have been plaguing his mind in recent weeks.
Federer spoke about it in no uncertain terms from Japan, where he is staying for a Uniqlo-branded event. “We tennis players are human,” he explained to the press, “In our sport to be present on a psychological level is crucial. Every now and then unplugging is necessary, even if only for a few months. Also because we are always traveling and struggling with training and jet lag. Without, moreover, being able to say that we are tired, or we convey a feeling of weakness to our opponents.”
“That’s why I’m a little afraid to do other sports after my retirement,” Federer then added. “Now with my knees it’s better, but I want to devote myself to my family and do some traveling with them. I want to relax a little bit, then in a few months we will see how I am. I am retired and want to enjoy some adventure vacations. I honestly don’t see myself as a tennis coach in the future right now. But never say never, in case a young Swiss needs a hand I will help him very gladly.”
