Milan Transfer Market: New Forward Signing; Eyes on Real Madrid and Liverpool

Ruben Amorim’s initial instructions for the new Milan are very clear: the Portuguese coach wants a highly offensive team that can immediately put pressure on the opponent. In their season opener against Torino, the Rossoneri took the field with an attack-oriented 3-4-2-1 formation, and Amorim’s boldness paid off.

Now the Rossoneri’s head coach wants another reinforcement in the attacking midfield, and there are two players he’s particularly interested in: Brahim Diaz of Real Madrid and Harvey Elliott of Liverpool. The former has already worn the Milan jersey (2020–2023), leaving a great impression, and would be very happy to return to Italy. Fenerbahce and Besiktas are also on his trail, but his preference is for the Rossoneri.

Harvey Elliott is very similar to Brahim Diaz: both play as attacking midfielders but like to drift out wide on the right flank. The Englishman, coming off a less-than-thrilling season on loan at Aston Villa, is sidelined by stiff competition at Liverpool and is looking around for a new home.

Milan is also looking for a new defender, and the spotlight is particularly on Gonçalo Inacio, a protégé of Amorim, who was the first coach to believe strongly in him. He has a €60 million buyout clause, but Sporting president Varandas has been very clear: “There will certainly be some transfers as the window closes, but Inacio isn’t going anywhere—he’s not among the players set to leave. Why was he on the bench? I’m not a coach.”

The possibility of Ruben Dias remains on the table, but there are several obstacles: Manchester City, despite Enzo Maresca having plenty of options to choose from, isn’t sure it wants to let him go, and his salary of nearly 17 million euros a year poses a major problem for the Rossoneri’s finances.
