Milan Transfer Market: A New Idea for the Defense—A Top-Tier Free Agent Is on the Horizon

To breathe new life into Milan and bounce back from last season’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, Ruben Amorim has decided to revamp the team, making it much more offensive than the one seen under Massimiliano Allegri, who is now with Napoli.

The young Portuguese coach has decided that the Rossoneri will play a three-man defense with Pavlovic, Gila, and either Gabbia or De Winter. However, the exclusion of Fikayo Tomori and the loan transfer of Zachary Athekame (a fullback who can also play in the center) force the Rossoneri to strengthen their back line.

According to some Portuguese sources, it appears that Milan is considering Diogo Leite, who is currently a free agent after his contract with Union Berlin expired. Born in 1999, the Portuguese center back could be a valuable addition for Milan, which will also be competing in the Europa League this season.

The Rossoneri aren’t the only ones tracking Diogo Leite: Borussia Mönchengladbach, Eintracht Frankfurt, Porto, Leeds, and Celta Vigo are also in the mix. Bologna also made an inquiry, but interest has cooled in recent days.

Leite would be extremely useful to Milan as a free transfer option, but Ruben Amorim also wants a high-profile signing, and there are two main candidates: Gonçalo Inácio and Ruben Dias. The Rossoneri will have to work hard (and not just a little): the former has a €60 million buyout clause, but Sporting would like to keep him; the latter commands a very high salary and isn’t sure he wants to leave Manchester City.
