Serie A: A Flurry of Fines Right Off the Bat—No Leniency from the Disciplinary Committee

A total of five clubs have been fined following the first matchday of the 2026-2027 Serie A season: The fines, imposed on Tuesday by Sports Judge Gerardo Mastrandrea—assisted by Stefania Ginesio and AIA representative Carlo Moretti—total 32,000 euros. However, there were no suspensions: the only person sent off—and suspended for one match—was Bologna’s assistant coach Andrea Tarozzi, while Genoa’s sporting director, Diego Lopez, was suspended until September 8 for misconduct on the sidelines, even though he was not on the official roster.

Below are the sanctions imposed by the Disciplinary Committee, as reported in the official statement from Lega Serie A:

Fine of €12,000.00: to BOLOGNA for its supporters, in the 29th minute of the second half, directing a laser beam toward the opposing team’s players; and for having, during the match, thrown three smoke bombs, a small water bottle, and several cups onto the field; penalty reduced pursuant to Art. 29, paragraph 1, letter b) of the CGS.

Fine of €10,000.00: to ATALANTA for its supporters having, at the 20th minute of the second half, thrown seven smoke bombs onto the field of play, forcing the referee to suspend the match for approximately two minutes to allow for their removal; reduced penalty pursuant to Art. 29, para. 1, subpar. b) of the CGS.

Fine of €4,000.00: imposed on VENEZIA for its supporters throwing a smoke bomb onto the field of play in the 48th minute of the second half, forcing the referee to stop play to allow for its removal; Penalty reduced pursuant to Art. 29, paragraph 1, subparagraph b) of the CGS.

Fine of €3,000.00: imposed on COMO on the grounds of strict liability for having unjustifiably caused a two-minute delay in the start of the first half.

Fine of €3,000.00: imposed on FROSINONE for repeatedly directing offensive chants at a player from the opposing team during the match.

TAROZZI Andrea (Bologna): for vehemently contesting a referee’s decision in the 44th minute of the first half; infraction noted by the fourth official.

OFFICIALS – NOT SENT OFF
Suspended through September 8, 2026
Diego Javier LOPEZ GOMEZ (Genoa): for, at the end of the match, having entered the field of play without authorization—as he was not listed on the match roster—repeatedly contested a referee’s decision, adopted an aggressive attitude, continued these protests in the locker room, and prevented the Referee from closing the door to his locker room for a few moments.
