Diego Abatantuono jokes about Jannik Sinner and puts his love for Milan aside

Diego Abatantuono will return to the big screen on September 3 with “Il Malloppo,” the new comedy directed by Volfango De Biasi, in which he stars alongside Mago Forest and Max Angioni. To promote the film, Abatantuono gave an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport, talking about movies, soccer, and a sporting passion that has become increasingly important to him: tennis.

Surprisingly, there has also been a change of team in his sporting life. His long-standing passion for Milan has, in fact, been put on hold: “For a couple of years now, I’ve been a Como fan: I like their style of play, I like the coach, and the president is super rich—which is great.” A choice he described with his usual lightheartedness, but one that confirms Abatantuono’s connection to the world of sports, which has always played an important role in his life.

In recent years, in fact, the actor has discovered a new passion: tennis. It’s a sport he’s been playing for quite some time now and, by his own account, he’s not doing too badly at all. “I’ve been playing for a few years now. I don’t want to sound like a show-off, but I’m doing pretty well,” he said. At the moment, however, he’s forced to take a break due to a knee injury. After all, his athletic activities are far from limited to tennis: “When you play tennis, soccer, water polo, swim, and climb, sooner or later you’re going to hurt yourself!”

When talking about tennis, it’s impossible not to mention Jannik Sinner. And Abatantuono didn’t shy away from comparing himself to the Italian champion, whose playing style he clearly sees himself in. “I’m really into Jannik: he has a bit of my style. I’d describe myself as a mix between him and McEnroe!” joked the actor.
