The market is closed, but not everywhere: in some countries, trading is still taking place—here’s where

In Italy, much to the delight of many coaches, the transfer window closed at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, but negotiations can still continue in several foreign leagues. Some leagues, in fact, have set a later deadline for their summer transfer window. In the Netherlands, transfers will close on Wednesday, while Belgian clubs—with whom negotiations are traditionally difficult—will have until Thursday.

The window will remain open until Friday in Turkey—a destination chosen by several players from Serie A—and in Portugal. The Saudi Pro League’s window, however, is longer: Saudi clubs will be able to continue making transfers until September 6.

Meanwhile, on the Saudi front, the future of Karim Benzema is the talk of the town. The French striker officially announced his departure from Al Hilal with an Instagram post: “A chapter has come to an end; I am grateful to the team, my teammates, the staff, the fans, and the entire club for the time we shared together.” At 39 years old, with 895 career appearances, 484 goals, and 205 assists,

Benzema is now a free agent and must decide whether to continue in the Saudi Pro League, try his luck in the United States, or hang up his cleats for good. A return to Europe is not among the options on the table, and the Saudi Pro League—with the transfer window open until September 6—could be the most realistic solution for the former Real Madrid star to find a new home.
