Lorenzo Sonego reveals Matteo Berrettini’s greatest asset
“He remained as he was before he became so strong and famous.”
He unexpectedly found himself, due to injuries to Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini, to be a starting singles player in the Davis Cup match against the United States, which will be staged in the Malaga Theater on Thursday, Nov. 24, starting at 10 a.m.
The Piedmontese tennis player, interviewed by ‘Il Messaggero,’ said he was ready and charged for the challenge: “I’ve always liked the team competition, also because on these occasions I’ve always given more. Playing in the Davis Cup has always been one of my biggest dreams, so I am so proud to be there again. Last year I lost to Gojo because I paid for the mental fatigue of a tough season, which had added up to two really tough matches,” Sonego began.
In the Spanish city, as promised, one of the two excellent injured players, Matteo Berrettini, also arrived to support the Azzurri. The Roman tennis player is a great friend of Sonego, who wasted no opportunity to sing his teammate’s praises: “Matteo and I are friends, I admire him for how he handles important moments and because he has remained as he was before he became so strong and famous. I, however, am already charged and motivated, ready to enjoy the strong emotions of Davis,” he concluded.
