Donnarumma Shows the Way to Reclaim the European Championship and the World Cup

Gianluigi Donnarumma spoke exclusively to Sky Sport on the day Sky doubled down on UEFA competitions, announcing the acquisition of the broadcast rights for UEFA EURO 2028, the UEFA European Qualifiers, and the 2026–2027 UEFA Nations League, which are in addition to the European Cups
The first question is inevitable, following Italy’s third consecutive World Cup miss: “Will we make it to the Euros? Right now we need a lot of positivity; we’re very happy about Mancini’s return. I’m well aware of the atmosphere I’ll be facing, because the summer was extremely difficult for all of us—especially due to our failure to qualify for the World Cup. It was also very tough for me to get through those days and watch the World Cup from the sidelines. Now, however, we need to turn the page, get back to being optimistic, and rebuild a strong team. We can only do this together—and with the support of the Italian fans, whom we’ll need right from the very first matches. We need to hold our heads high and start anew with this jersey, which I’m sure will give us the enthusiasm and motivation to tackle the upcoming matches and the qualifiers. We want to rewrite our history and qualify again for the European Championship and the World Cup.”
“When you mention Wembley, you touch on something very important to me, because it’s linked to one of the most beautiful moments of my life, along with the birth of my son. It’s an unforgettable memory, but there’s one image I want to remember above all else: the embrace between Coach Mancini and Gianluca Vialli after the victory. It was a special and emotional moment that showed just how important Gianluca was to us, to our team, and above all to his great friend Mancini. I’ll always carry that image with me. I’m sure we can get back on track, qualify for the European Championship and the World Cup, and—with Coach Mancini—return to where Italy deserves to be.”
