Tortona: Marco Picchi downsizes six teams, but…

Tortona President Marco Picchi spoke with Tuttosport about the team’s goals for the season, making no secret of his own ambitions and those of the Bianconeri club. “Qualifying for the Final Eight of the Coppa Italia is a goal we intend to achieve, especially since it will be played in Turin, in our region. The competition will be extremely tough: there are nine or ten well-equipped teams; at least two will be left out, and who knows—there might be some surprises.”

“Obviously, the playoffs are the other key moment: watching others play them is not pleasant at all. Competition in the EuroCup is also fierce; we’d be satisfied if we could make it to the second round.”

“We’d like the new season to be marked by consistency at a high level. I look back and see what we’ve managed to accomplish: we’ve made the playoffs four times, reached the league semifinals twice, and played in two Coppa Italia finals, while also competing in a European tournament in two seasons. All of this in just six years in the top flight.”

“This exponential growth is up against an increasingly tough league. Serie A, in fact, has raised the bar so much that it’s now considered the fourth most competitive league in Europe—not to mention the EuroCup, which we’re about to compete in. The challenge has become both fascinating and difficult, but we accept it to keep our standards as high as possible.”
