Sandro Mazzola: Serie A Remembers One of Its Greatest Champions

In a message released through its official channels, Lega Serie A honored the memory of Sandro Mazzola—an icon of Inter Milan who served not only as a player but also as an executive—who passed away at the age of 83, through the words of President Ezio Simonelli. Mazzola won the top Italian league four times, always while wearing the “Beneamata” jersey.

“Sandro Mazzola is one of the most important and authentic figures in the history of Italian soccer,” said Simonelli. “I remember him first and foremost as a truly great champion, a leading figure of an extraordinary era in our soccer and someone who left an indelible mark while playing for Inter and the national team. His achievements and technical skills are part of the collective memory of Italian sports.”

“I also had the opportunity to get to know and appreciate him in a role other than that of a soccer player—during his post-career entrepreneurial endeavors, when he was able to reinvent himself and demonstrate his managerial skills,” added the head of Lega Serie A. “With his passing, we lose a true legend of Italian soccer, but also a person who was able to navigate the various stages of his professional life with intelligence and passion.”
