Reggio sends a warning to Trento; Cantù makes changes to its roster

Cantù’s current slump could soon have repercussions on the transfer market as well. The sixth consecutive preseason loss, which came against Pallacanestro Reggiana, has reportedly prompted the club to consider possible changes to the roster. Among the players under scrutiny is Hassani Gravett, who appeared lackluster even in the game against the team from Emilia and whose position seems to be growing increasingly precarious.

On the court, Cantù lost 73-66 to UNA Hotels Reggio Emilia, which, thanks to the victory, won the Trofeo Degli Angeli in Casnate con Bernate and wrapped up its preseason with a win.

Yet the game had started off on the right foot for the home team. Semaj Christon effectively led the team from the point guard position, and a 9-0 run allowed Cantù to take its first significant lead, reaching 21-16 by the end of the first quarter. Reggio fought back in the second quarter with Echenique scoring near the basket and Rossato’s energy, but they were unable to complete the comeback right away. At halftime, Cantù was still ahead 40-34.

The balance of the game shifted completely in the second half. Coach Priftis’s team ramped up the intensity on defense and found greater consistency on offense. Edwards finished with 13 points, while Speedy Smith made his presence felt from long range with a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range.

UNA Hotels’ improved defense ultimately decided the game. Cantù scored just 26 points in the entire second half of the game, while Reggio completed the comeback in the third quarter and extended their lead to +14, building the decisive margin early in the fourth quarter.

Reggio Emilia can now focus on its Serie A SisalClub debut, scheduled for Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the PalaBigi against Trento.
