Jannik Sinner Remains Silent: Paolo Bertolucci Isn’t Worried

Jannik Sinner has not yet confirmed his participation in the China Open, scheduled to take place in Beijing: the Italian, who is working to regain top form after a forced break due to a knee injury, is taking all the time he needs to decide. The world No. 1, who hasn’t played an official match since the Wimbledon final, has many points to defend between now and the end of the season to maintain his spot at the top of the ATP rankings, but caution comes first.

Paolo Bertolucci explained this to OaSport, saying the following about the South Tyrolean: “Won’t he be returning to Asia? I wouldn’t know how to answer that. We know he has this inflammation in his right knee. At this point, I’m certain he’ll only return when he’s fully recovered, 100%. If he’s in Asia, great; otherwise, it’ll be later, in Europe. I don’t think he’ll have any issues with that.”

“He’s decided to skip the U.S. Open, one of his seasonal goals. At this point, I don’t think he wants to take any risks to play a 500 or a 1000. So he’ll only return when he’s perfectly healthy.”

According to Bertolucci, it was actually Flavio Cobolli who made a mistake in his scheduling: “When you reach the final in Paris and break into the top ten, at that point you have to completely overhaul your schedule. There’s one approach for the top 10, another for the top 20, yet another for the top 40, and so on—all of which must be adjusted based on results. If you drop in the rankings, you also have to step down, so to speak, in terms of the quality and importance of the tournaments.
