When will Jannik Sinner return? 3 options for the Italian player’s future

Jannik Sinner is finally nearing the end of his rehabilitation following the knee injury that forced him to miss Montreal, Cincinnati, and the U.S. Open. The South Tyrolean returned to the court several days ago to get back into the swing of things, and now there are three options for his return to the tour.

The first possibility is to see Sinner back on the court at the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing, where he is already officially entered. The tournament, which Sinner has already won in 2023 and 2025, will take place from September 30 to October 6: organizers are confident he will participate, but an official decision has yet to be made.

The second possibility for Jannik Sinner’s return is a move to Europe: the Italian might decide to skip Beijing to avoid taking risks by returning to the court at the Vienna tournament scheduled for October 26 through November 1. There is also a third option, which, it must be said, is the least likely and involves Sinner not returning to play until 2027.

The odds are very slim, but the Italian has already won all the fall tournaments in his career; therefore, should there be even the slightest doubt regarding his physical condition, he might decide to extend his hiatus. At the moment, there have been no updates from either the superstar or his team: we’ll have to see how things unfold in the coming weeks.

Italian Davis Cup captain Filippo Volandri had this to say about Jannik Sinner’s absence on Tennis Talk: “He’s been off the court for almost fifty days, which explains this gradual increase in intensity. From what I know, he’s training well and is in good shape.”

Alexander’s brother, Mischa Zverev, was decidedly less gracious, stating on Sport1: “Where were Sinner and Alcaraz? Why weren’t they at the US Open? Because they were injured. Why do they get injured? Because, in some way, they aren’t strong enough, or because they pushed themselves too hard, or because they don’t rest when they need to.”
