The Milan-supporting commentator thanks the haters: “Thanks for the free vacation, tortelloni”

Marco Verdoliva, an avowed Milan fan, is one of the leading commentators and analysts on the soccer program Novastadio on the television network Telenova. On his social media channels, such as his and Instagram profile, this AC Milan fan comments daily on the Rossoneri’s news and performances.

Evidently, someone went too far in his counterattack and was forced to make amends: this can be inferred from the post in which he thanked his apparently quite numerous haters. “I love you, and thanks for the paid vacation, tortelloni,” Verdoliva wrote alongside an image in which, among other things, he describes himself as ‘gorgeous’ and the owner of a nice car.

Speaking of… Milan, journalist Alessandro Milan also weighed in on the topic after Sigfrido Ranucci filed a claim for compensation against an elderly man:  “Dear Mr. Peppino, I’m very sorry, but if at 76 you haven’t learned manners and proper conduct, it’s only fair that you be re-educated by hitting you in the wallet—the only language you understand. In fact, I should start doing the same to those who insult me, but I’m just too lazy. However, if a lawyer is willing to handle everything for me, that’s fine.”

Compensation for insults from haters on social media is legally required, since derogatory or defamatory comments constitute the crime of aggravated defamation (Art. 595 of the Italian Penal Code), giving rise to both criminal and civil liability. Italian judges, relying primarily on the tables published by the Milan Observatory on Justice, determine the amount of financial compensation based on the severity of the offense, the number of interactions, and the harm caused to the individual.
