Davide Brivio, Trackhouse’s team principal, has completely changed his stance compared to the view he expressed immediately after the crash that marked the Mandalika Sprint,

“I have to apologize; I was interviewed 2–3 minutes after the crash happened, and I claimed that Marquez and Martin had entered the corner too aggressively. But I was wrong; I was too ‘hot-headed’—he told Sky—I now think that Marco was more focused on not letting Raul pass and ended up opening the door for everyone else; the rest was just a consequence. In my opinion, Raul and Marco had a pace that was a cut above everyone else; they should have gone into the first corner together—regardless of their order—and then pulled away to battle it out between themselves. Too bad—we ruined the race for both of them.”

“You’d have to ask Marco what his intention was,” he added. “We think that by closing the first corner, you put yourself on the defensive against the others and then set the pace for the race. You only widen out like that when there’s no one else around, maybe in qualifying. In the first corner of a race, you should get on the inside as soon as possible, I think. For Raul, this was an incredible weekend; he was fast the whole time. All the ingredients were there for a great weekend.”
