Risk of a Schedule Shuffle in MotoGP

Tensions in Saudi Arabia, following the attack attributed to pro-Iranian Houthi fighters on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, have reignited security concerns in the region and could also have repercussions on the MotoGP schedule. The reported death toll is extremely high, with twelve dead and 309 injured, some of whom are in serious condition. Among the victims are four Saudi citizens and eight foreigners, including one American, according to a statement from the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority.

The attack caused property damage and prompted the United States and several Western countries to take precautionary measures. This situation could also affect the organizers of the MotoGP World Championship, who must carefully assess how the situation develops and the potential consequences for the safety of teams, riders, and staff.

At the moment, however, a change to the calendar cannot be taken for granted: to determine whether there will be concrete consequences for the World Championship, official guidance from the FIA and the organizers will be needed. Future decisions will depend on how the crisis unfolds and on safety assessments.

Marc Marquez and his teammates are expected (though the conditional is a must here) to race in Qatar on November 8.
